2016 - April 30
I'm a woman from Dayton, Ohio. Since my Mom & Dad both worked, I was raised by my maternal Grandmother & Great Grandmother. I have one brother who came along when I was 5.
When I was 8 we moved to Vandalia, 10 miles from Dayton, where we had enough land for me to have the horse I had been promised if we ever had the space - of course my parents never thought we would have the space ! This wonderful horse, Nipper became my best friend.
The summer after my junior year in high school, we moved to Atlanta. Nipper went with us along with a parakeet by the name of Rick-ett (her name was Ricky until she laid an egg !) After graduation I went to work for the largest department store in town working in stock control for the phono record department. The buyer, my boss, Dinty Moore, had been working in California as a stand in for Betty Davis. She also set up record collections for all the stars so she had a lot of famous friends who would call or come to town & stop by the office which allowed me to meet quite a few celebrities. That was a great job!
After five years in Atlanta, the family moved back to Cincinnati, Ohio. I became the buyer for a small department store for a short time until my parents bought a small gift shop. At that time I joined Mom to run the shop. The shop only lasted a year or two then passed away to "gift shop" heaven. I stayed for another year but then moved back to Dayton.
I found a job selling records at one of the smaller department stores in town. I became the department manager & went on to become the buyer. I met my husband there. He was a detective for the police department moonlighting as a store detective. We married in 1969 - bought a schnauzer pup - a10gal fish tank (very popular hobby at that time) - next we bought a 30 gal fish tank - next a friend gave us a 20 gal fish tank - next I gave up my job & we opened a tropical fish shop. We had quite a successful business for two years but husband Andy wasn't interested in it, so I opted for the marriage (big mistake) & we moved to the suburbs.
Here we had a nice little house with a large yard great for the pup, Potsie & spurred my interest in gardening which led me to Joyce who has been my best friend for the last 46 years & still counting. Our familys became close. Andy & Joyce's husband Don were fishing buddies - we vacationed with them on the UP of Michigan on Lake Superior - this became my favorite place on earth.
I never had any children - husband Andy had two from his three previous marriage's (two ladies, he married one twice) he didn't want any more so I agreed.
