Cat
After Emmy Lou had been gone for a while, I felt the need for another cat. I went to the Vet where I had worked to see who they had that might need a home.
They got all excited & said "Oh Boy, we have just the cat for you." They took me to a cage that held a tuxedo cat that was stretched out reaching from one side of the cage to the other. He didn't move - just calmly look at me with those big yellow eyes. He looked to be several years old so I asked where he came from. They said, when Denny, an employee, was cleaning up their parking lot, a car drove by & threw a shoe box out the car window. He picked up the box to throw it in the dumpster when a small head popped out. It was a kitten only about a month old. Of course they kept him.
He had been there for the past 6 or 7 months. I had always like the tux colored cats so I said if they would do a declaw, I would take him. I knew he had to be in good health & was up to date on shots so I had found myself a new friend. I went home to tell Joey & Daisy, my two dogs at that time, we would be having another cat in a few days. They really didn't seem to care. I knew they would probably ignore him just as they had Emmy Lou & they did.
This was the best cat ever -- he was not the smartest cat in town but that worked as an advantage for him. I always hated the idea of cats being house bound but the thought of being killed on the street or being mistreated by someone, led me to want them safe in the house. Then I saw an ad for a "Cat Fence". It was an attachment to add to the top of your fence that prevented your cat from leaving the yard. After looking it over, I decided I could do something like that myself. Since I have quite a large yard, I had a new fence put in. It divided the yard in half & was topped with my version of a "Cat Fence". It worked! Cat spent many happy years outside in the yard & only got out once - still don't know how he did it. He got out in the evening & went to a neighbors yard. It was dark - my neighbor & I both had flashlights which scared the livin' B- G-G's out of Cat. He finally ran under a huge bush & wouldn't come out. I finally went back in the house - made one last effort about 11pm, then gave up for the night.
I was out at 6am - went to the bush & called to him. That's when I heard that terrible sound a cat makes when they're saying "help me I'm in big trouble". So I crawled under the bush & drug him out. He wouldn't let go of the ground so he came out with all fours full of dirt & leaves. Poor guy was still scared to death! Needless to say he slept almost all day.
He enjoyed going out in the yard at night to see what he could find. He provided me with a lot of exercise by bringing in frogs & turning them loose in the living room for me to catch & put back in the pond.
Cat crossed that Rainbow Bridge in late 2009.
Still miss him more than I can say - 2013
